Income Source Identified
If your SRD status says “Income Source Identified”, it means SASSA detected money linked to your ID number that disqualifies you for that month. This page explains what triggered it, how the income check works, and what to do if it is wrong.

This status means SASSA found money linked to your ID number that is above the SRD income limit for that month.
It does not mean you are banned forever. It applies only to the specific month that was checked.
How SASSA checks income
- SASSA runs a monthly means test using your ID number.
- It checks multiple databases to look for income or deposits.
- If any source shows income above the SRD threshold, the month is declined.
- The check repeats every month, so results can change.
Common reasons this status appears
- A temporary deposit into your bank account.
- Money received from family or friends.
- A short-term job payment or stipend.
- Old UIF or NSFAS records not yet cleared.
- Interest or refunds that pushed your balance above the limit.
If the income flag is correct
If you did receive money above the SRD limit, there is no fix for that month.
- Wait for the next month’s reassessment.
- Avoid deposits that could trigger the limit again.
- Your status can return to approved if no income is detected next month.
If the income flag is wrong
If you did not receive income, you must appeal that month.
- Open the official SRD appeals page.
- Enter your ID number and the phone number used for SRD.
- Select the declined month.
- Submit a reason explaining why the detected income is incorrect.
Will this affect future months?
No. Each month is assessed separately.
You can be declined this month and approved again next month if no income is detected.
