Update SASSA Phone NumberBefore you change your SRD phone number
- Use a number that is in your name and active.
- Avoid using a friend or family member’s SIM. It can create verification problems later.
- Keep your new number safe because OTPs and status access depend on it.
- Do not share OTPs with anyone. Scammers often target SRD applicants.
If you still have your old phone number
- Open the official SRD portal.
- Look for the option to update or change contact details.
- Enter your ID number and your current phone number.
- Request an OTP and enter it to confirm.
- Add your new phone number and confirm it through the prompts.
If you lost your old phone number
Most SRD updates require OTP access. If you cannot receive OTPs on the old number, your first step is usually to recover the SIM.
- Visit your mobile network store and request a SIM swap for the same number.
- Bring your ID and any proof that the number belongs to you.
- After the SIM is active again, return to the SRD portal and update your number.
- If the number was never registered to you, use the next section.
If the SRD number is not in your name
This can cause verification problems because SRD access depends on the number linked to your application.
- If possible, move to a SIM that is registered in your name (RICA).
- Try to regain access to the old number long enough to complete the change process.
- If you cannot access it, use the “Check Status Without SMS” options and then follow official support channels.
OTP not coming through
- Check that your phone has network signal and can receive SMS.
- Restart your phone and try again after a few minutes.
- Make sure the number you enter matches the SRD application number.
- If it still fails, wait and try later. SRD OTP delivery can slow down during peak times.
